Animal Aid Kythira

Who Are We?

Animal Aid Kythira AMKE is a non-profit organization set up in 2021 with the goal of providing aid and protection to all creatures in need on the island of Kythira. Our volunteers dedicate their time freely and we keep our overheads to a minimum, so that all donations are used for their intended purpose.

We work closely with Kythira's only vet, Katherine Stathatos, and the local municipality, to provide a safe and comfortable environment for all animals in need and to promote animal welfare throughout the island.

Our Vision

To help, protect and improve the lives of all animals, domestic, stray and wild, from the land, sea and air.  The turtles and seals that frequent the waters around Kythira sometimes need help, as do migratory birds, hares and even hedgehogs!

Our Mission

At Animal Aid Kythira, our mission is to help animals in need and protecting their lives, to raise funds to buy food, medication, and equipment and help pay for the sterilization of Kythira's stray cat population.  We also aim to raise awareness in our community of the legal obligations related to animal welfare, as well as making visitors aware of our local wildlife and its needs, because we believe that all animals should be given the respect and care they deserve, no matter their size or species.

Kythira does not have an official animal rescue shelter, so it is difficult for us to rescue abandoned animals, but we can try to ensure that they receive all the help they need and to live a healthy life.

As a non-profit organization, we rely solely on donations and volunteer work to achieve our aims.  We hope you explore our website and join us in our mission.
